WithSecure and ENISA join forces to strengthen Europe’s cyber defenses

ENISA – The European Union Agency for Cyber Security – was set up in 2004 with the goal of attaining a higher level of cyber security within the European Union.

Through engagement with its stakeholders and strengthened by the EU Cybersecurity Act, ENISA works to protect European society as a whole, as well as the continually expanding threat landscape.

In 2023, it launched the Cyber Partnership Programme (CPP), to “enhance information sharing and build the cooperation needed to improve the cybersecurity landscape”. This allows the union to engage and develop the services of private cyber security companies to aid in their mission.

The CPP itself has three main objectives:

  • to enhance preparedness and effective incident response and cooperation amongst Member States and EU institutions, including cooperation of technical, operational and political actors during incidents or crises;
  • to achieve common situational awareness before and during cyber incidents and crises across the Union;
  • to support information exchange and cooperation, cross-layer and cross-border between Member States and as well as with EU institutions.

As a leading European cyber security company, we were delighted and proud that our WithSecure Intelligence & Outreach team was asked to be an active contributor.

“We offer an EU-focused perspective in our contributions to ENISA, helping to keep them informed on the wider threat landscape and cybersecurity trends,” says Stephen Robinson, Senior Threat Intelligence Analyst at WithSecure, of the project.

By attending regular meetings, we’re able to offer crucial and critical insight gained through our constant research on what ENISA – and, by extention, the wider European Union – is looking into at any specific time. This data allows them to shape their preparedness and incident response capaibilities, particularly in these uncertain times.

Our data is also used for situational awareness, which in the end leads to policy creation within the EU.

“We bring our intelligence and analysis to aid ENISA – and, by extension, the EU Parliament – in their understanding of the current threats and threat landscape, as well as threats against EU member States. As a result, we're contributing to cyber security policy and essentially helping to shape the future of cyber security and cyberspace in the EU,” Robinson concludes.

This partnership further strengthens our position as a leading European cyber security provider and we appreciate the faith in both our people and expertise that the EU has shown during our collaboration to date.
